Madhya Pradesh Ration Card — Documents Required

🔒 Read-only guide · nothing is uploaded

Quick answer: For a new ration card in Madhya Pradesh you need: Samagra family ID; A document proving the eligibility category you are claiming; Aadhaar cards of all family members. Ration cards are run by each state separately, so this is Madhya Pradesh's own list — it is not the same as the neighbouring state's.

Documents required in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh asks for three attachments, plus a declaration consenting to the use of Aadhaar. There is a step before this one: you need a Samagra family ID first, and getting one is a separate free process at the janpad panchayat or urban body office, with its own documents. Madhya Pradesh is the only one of these five states where the ration application has a prerequisite of its own.

How to apply in Madhya Pradesh

You do not apply online yourself in Madhya Pradesh. The application and its documents are kept at the gram panchayat or urban body office, and the panchayat secretary or ward in-charge enters it on the portal for you. That is different from Bihar and Rajasthan, where residents apply directly.

Who cannot get a card in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh's test is narrower than most. You declare on the form that no family member pays income tax, that no member is a Class I, II or III officer or employee of a government, semi-government or autonomous body — which expressly includes nationalised banks and cooperative institutions — and that no eligibility slip has already been issued to anyone in the family. There is no vehicle, land or floor-area test, and no stated income ceiling. Eligibility runs through 24 listed categories, and Madhya Pradesh is the only one of these states to include Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes as categories in their own right.

What you get, and what it costs

How much grain you get depends on the card, not the state. An Antyodaya (AAY) household gets 35 kg a month for the whole household. A Priority Household (PHH) gets 5 kg per person per month, so the total depends on how many members are on the card.

It costs nothing. Foodgrains under the National Food Security Act have been free since 1 January 2023, and the free period was extended for five years from 1 January 2024.
