Work out your MSME loan EMI
MSME and SME lending covers working capital, machinery, and expansion — and it is priced very differently depending on whether the loan is secured. An unsecured business loan carries a materially higher rate than a term loan backed by property or equipment, and government-backed schemes for small businesses are usually cheaper again. Because the tenure on business lending is short compared with a home loan, the EMI is far more sensitive to the rate than borrowers expect — which is exactly why it is worth checking against cash flow before signing. Frequently asked questions
What counts as an MSME loan?
It is business lending to a micro, small or medium enterprise rather than a separate product with its own maths. The EMI is calculated exactly like any other reducing-balance loan — what differs is the rate, the tenure and the documents.
Is the EMI different from a normal business loan?
No. The formula is identical. MSME borrowers often get access to government-backed or priority-sector schemes that carry a different rate, and it is the rate and tenure that change your EMI — not the label on the loan.
Does an Udyam registration matter?
Lenders commonly ask for the Udyam certificate to confirm the business qualifies as an MSME, and several schemes are only open to registered enterprises. Check with your lender which of their products you are eligible for.
Does collateral lower the rate?
Usually yes — a secured loan against property or equipment normally carries a lower rate than an unsecured one, and often a longer tenure. Compare the total interest, not just the EMI.
Are processing fees and GST included in the EMI?
No. The EMI is principal plus interest only. Processing fees, GST on those fees and any insurance are separate — work the GST out with our GST Calculator.
What documents will the lender want?
Business lending leans on financials: KYC, proof the business exists, bank statements, ITR and GST returns where applicable. Our MSME loan document checklist lays out the usual set and helps you prepare each file. Always confirm the exact list with your lender.
