  • You keep the relaxation only if you show the right certificate, in the right format, at document verification.
The two CBTs
QuestionsTime
CBT 1100 — General Awareness 40, Mathematics 30, General Intelligence & Reasoning 3090 min
CBT 2120 — General Awareness 50, Mathematics 35, General Intelligence & Reasoning 3590 min
  • CBT 1 is a screening test. On its normalised marks, 15 times each community's vacancies go on to CBT 2. CBT 2's normalised marks decide who is called for document verification — as many as there are vacancies.
  • A wrong answer costs 1/3 mark. The split between subjects is indicative; the actual paper can vary a little.
  • Pass marks in each CBT: 40% General and EWS, 30% OBC-NCL and SC, 25% ST. Ex-servicemen and PwBD go by their community; for PwBD the mark can drop by 2 if too few qualify.
  • PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe get 120 minutes.
  • Questions come in your chosen language and in English. Mock tests are on the RRB website.
  • Equal marks: the older candidate ranks higher; at the same age, alphabetical order of the first name.
  • No typing test this time for Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum TypistJunior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist. Typing is still expected and is checked after you join — weak typing can delay your confirmation or promotion.

  • Every post also needs you to be physically fit in all respects.
  • Had Lasik? You can still be fit for B-2 and C-2 posts, on the Railway Board's conditions printed in the notice (Annexure VII(A)).
  • Ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates have their own medical standards in the Indian Railway Medical Manual.

Fail the medical for a post and you are not offered another post instead. You can make one final appeal, for a fee and within the time allowed; its result is final.

Questions

Do I upload a photo for RRB NTPC?

No. RRB's form takes your photo live with your webcam or your phone's front camera while you apply, and you can retake it until you submit. Don't photograph a printed or on-screen photo — the application is rejected. If the live photo doesn't match your photo ID, the form gives you a declaration (Annexure VIII) to get signed by a Gazetted Officer and upload. The only file you upload is your signature.

Is there a typing test?

Not this time. RRB has dropped the typing skill test in both notices — for Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist (Graduate), and for Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist (12th level). You are still expected to type on a computer: it is checked after you join, and weak typing can delay your confirmation or promotion.

Can I fill the form on my phone?

For the Graduate notice (CEN 06/2026), yes: RRB's FAQ says a smartphone's web browser may be used. For the 12th-level notice (CEN 07/2026), RRB advises a desktop or laptop, because some parts of the form don't work properly on a phone. The live photo can be taken with a webcam or a phone camera. No computer? A Common Services Centre (CSC) near you can fill in the form and pay the fee for you — find one at findmycsc.nic.in.

My final-year result isn't out yet. Can I apply?

No. You must already have passed by the closing date — 6 November 2026 for the Graduate notice, 13 November 2026 for the 12th-level notice. Anyone waiting for a final result is not eligible.

My certificate shows only the month and year of passing. What date do I enter?

The last day of that month — May-2023 becomes 31-05-2023.

Can a state-list OBC claim OBC reservation?

No. Only castes in the central OBC list (ncbc.nic.in) can. If your caste is only on your state's list, you apply as General (UR).

Can I change my exam city, date or shift?

No. RRB allots them and doesn't change the city, centre, date or shift for any reason. Your centre may be in another city or state.

Which website is the official one?

Apply only on rrbapply.gov.in. Notices, dates, e-call letters and results are on rrb.indianrailways.gov.in, which links to each RRB's page. RRB warns that fake websites give wrong information.
